07/08/2015 Watch - Earthquake in Nepal On Saturday, April 25, 2015, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck 48 miles (77 km) northwest of Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu, causing avalanches around Mount Everest and several aftershocks. In Kathmandu, conditions are returning to normal. In the worst-affected areas outside Kathmandu, damage is more widespread and severe. Recovery efforts in these areas are ongoing, and access to basic resources, such as food, water, fuel, and communications, could be limited.
07/06/2015 Watch - Chikungunya in the Pacific Islands The Pacific Public Health Surveillance Network (PacNet) has reported local transmission of chikungunya in several islands in the central and south Pacific Ocean. Local transmission means that mosquitoes in the area have been infected with chikungunya and are spreading it to people.
07/02/2015 Alert - Ebola in Liberia CDC is no longer recommending that US residents avoid nonessential travel to Liberia. However, CDC recommends that US residents practice enhanced precautions when traveling to Liberia.
06/29/2015 Watch - MERS in the Republic of Korea On May 20, the Republic of Korea reported its first laboratory-confirmed case of Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS). All transmission has been linked to health care facilities where MERS patients were treated.
06/24/2015 Watch - Chikungunya in the Pacific Islands The Pacific Public Health Surveillance Network (PacNet) has reported local transmission of chikungunya in several islands in the central and south Pacific Ocean. CDC recommends that travelers to these countries protect themselves by avoiding contact with the blood and body fluids of people who are sick, because of the possibility they may be sick with Ebola.

06/11/2015 Watch - Zika in Brazil On May 14, 2015, the Ministry of Health in Brazil confirmed 16 locally transmitted cases of Zika. CDC recommends that travelers to the Philippines protect themselves by making sure they are vaccinated against measles. Clinicians should keep measles in mind when treating patients with fever and rash, especially if the patient has recently traveled internationally.
05/26/2015 Watch - Hand, Foot, and Mouth (HFMD) Disease in Japan According to the World Health Organization, as of April 22, Japan has reported more than 19,400 cases of hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) in 2015. Since the middle of March, weekly case numbers of HFMD have increased and are higher than in previous years. CDC recommends that travelers to Japan follow recommendations for hygiene and cleanliness to avoid HFMD.
05/26/2015 Watch - Dengue in Brazil According to Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), as of May 8, 2015, 745,957 cases of dengue fever, including 229 deaths, have been reported in Brazil in 2015. Travelers to Brazil should protect themselves against mosquito bites to avoid getting dengue.
05/26/2015 Watch - Dengue in Malaysia According to the World Health Organization, as of April 11,, 2015, more than 35,700 cases of dengue fever, including 108 deaths, have been reported in Malaysia in 2015. Travelers to Malaysia should protect themselves against mosquito bites to avoid getting dengue.
05/26/2015 Watch - Ross River virus disease in Australia According to the Department of Health in Australia, as of May 14, 2015, a total of 6,945 Ross River virus disease (RRVD) cases have been reported. This is the largest number of reported cases since 1996. CDC recommends that travelers to Australia protect themselves from RRVD by preventing mosquito bites.
05/26/2015 Warning - Earthquake in Nepal CDC recommends that US residents avoid all nonessential travel to Nepal. If you must travel, such as for humanitarian aid work, then protect yourself by following CDC’s advice below. Additionally, as of May 2, 2015, the US Department of State recommends that US citizens defer nonessential travel to Nepal.
05/26/2015 Watch - Avian Flu (H7N9) in China According to the World Health Organization, 665 cases and 229 deaths from H7N9 flu have been reported globally from March 2013 through May 9, 2015, most from the mainland of China. Smaller numbers of cases have been identified in travelers from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Canada. CDC advises people traveling to China to avoid contact with poultry (including poultry markets and farms), birds, and their droppings. There are no recommendations against travel to China.
05/26/2015 Watch - Cholera in Cuba According to the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Cuban health authorities have reported more than 700 cases of cholera, including 3 deaths, since July 2012. The outbreak is ongoing, and cases have been reported from the provinces of Artemisa, Camagüey, Granma, Guantánamo, Havana, and Santiago de Cuba. Several cases were reported in travelers returning from Cuba, including travelers from the United States.
05/26/2015 Alert - Tropical Cyclone Pam in Vanuatu Tropical Cyclone Pam hit Vanuatu on March 14, 2015. Vanuatu is an island nation in the South Pacific consisting of about 80 small islands. Significant infrastructure damage has caused problems with sanitation, food supply, electricity, transportation, shelter, communications, security, and medical care. CDC recommends that travelers to Vanuatu take precautions to protect their health.

05/15/2015 Watch - Mumps in Scotland As of March 22, 2015, Health Protection Scotland has reported 242 confirmed mumps cases in 2015. CDC recommends that travelers to Scotland protect themselves by making sure they are vaccinated against mumps before travel.
05/15/2015 Watch - Meningococcal Disease in Nigeria As of March 29, 2015, a total of 1,346 cases of meningitis, including 50 deaths, have been reported from the Nigerian states of Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara. CDC recommends that travelers to Nigeria get vaccinated with quadrivalent meningococcal vaccine, which protects against N. meningitidis serogroups A, C, W, and Y. Travelers who continue to be at risk should receive a booster dose every 5 years.
05/15/2015 Watch - Meningococcal Disease in Niger As of May 10, 2015, a total of 5,855 suspected cases of meningococcal disease and 406 deaths have been reported in Niger. Most cases have occurred in the districts of Niamey, Dioundiou (Gaya), Tibiri (Doutchi), Dosso, Kollo, and Oualla. CDC recommends that travelers to Niger get vaccinated with quadrivalent meningococcal vaccine, which protects against N. meningitidis serogroups A, C, W, and Y. Travelers who continue to be at risk should receive a booster dose every 5 years.

05/14/2015 Watch - Hepatitis A in Mexico (Tulum) As of May 1, 2015, a total of 27 cases of hepatitis A have been reported in US travelers who went to Tulum, Mexico. All of the people traveled between the dates of February 15, 2015, and March 20, 2015. CDC recommends that travelers to Mexico get vaccinated against hepatitis A and follow all food and water precautions.
05/14/2015 Watch - Measles in Bosnia and Herzegovina As of February 2015, the Federal Institute of Public Health in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina has reported more than 3,800 cases since January 2014. Most of the cases have been in 3 Central Bosnia Canton municipalities: Bugojno, Fojnica, and Travnik. CDC recommends that travelers to Bosnia and Herzegovina protect themselves by making sure they are vaccinated against measles. Clinicians should keep measles in mind when treating patients with fever and rash, especially if the patient has recently traveled internationally.
05/14/2015 Watch - Malaria in Brazil The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) received information that 23 locally transmitted malaria (Plasmodium vivax) cases have been reported in the state of Rio de Janerio from January 17 through February 25, 2015. Also, from March 3 through March 13, 2015, 5 locally transmitted (Plasmodium vivax) cases have been reported in the state of Goias. Local transmission means that mosquitoes have been infected with malaria and are spreading it to people. CDC recommends that travelers to the central, mountainous, forested areas of Rio de Janiero State and Goias State in Brazil protect the

05/14/2015 Alert - Polio in Cameroon As of August 11, 2014, 5 cases of polio have been reported in Cameroon for 2014. There were also 4 cases reported in 2013. This outbreak of polio is the first reported in Cameroon since 2009.
05/14/2015 Watch - Chikungunya in the Caribbean In December 2013, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported cases of chikungunya in Saint Martin. Additional cases were reported in other islands in the Caribbean. This is the first time that local transmission of chikungunya has been reported in the Americas. CDC recommends that travelers to the Caribbean protect themselves from mosquito bites.
05/14/2015 Alert - Polio in Somalia According to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, as of August 11, 2014, 5 cases have been reported in Somalia for 2014. In 2013, 194 cases of polio were reported from Somalia. These are the first wild poliovirus cases reported in Somalia since 2007. CDC recommends that all travelers to Somalia be fully vaccinated against polio. In addition, adults should receive a one-time booster dose of polio vaccine.
05/14/2015 Alert - MERS in the Arabian Peninsula Cases of MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) have been identified in multiple countries in the Arabian Peninsula. There have also been cases in several other countries in travelers who have been to the Arabian Peninsula and, in some instances, their close contacts.

Local transmission means that mosquitoes in the area have been infected with chikungunya and are spreading it to people. Local transmission of chikungunya is now being reported in other countries in Central America. CDC recommends that travelers to the Central America protect themselves from mosquito bites.
