| 07/08/2015 | Watch - Earthquake in Nepal | On Saturday, April 25, 2015, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck 48 miles (77 km) northwest of Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu, causing avalanches around Mount Everest and several aftershocks. In Kathmandu, conditions are returning to normal. In the worst-affected areas outside Kathmandu, damage is more widespread and severe. Recovery efforts in these areas are ongoing, and access to basic resources, such as food, water, fuel, and communications, could be limited. |

Local transmission means that mosquitoes in the area have been infected with chikungunya and are spreading it to people. |
