Good to know

Before you use it

  • For research, software and reference, not navigation. Pilots should use current official FAA publications.
  • Public-use facilities only. The roughly 14,000 private-use airstrips and helipads, many at homes, farms and hospitals, are left out.
  • FAAID is the FAA location identifier, such as DEN; ICAOID is the four-letter international code, such as KDEN, filled for 2,375 airports. Part139Class is the FAA certificate class (I to IV) for airports that serve airline flights; empty means not certificated.
  • Each runway lists both ends with their true heading and any instrument approach, such as ILS. Lengths, widths and elevations are in feet. Names and cities are in capitals and abbreviated, as the FAA publishes them.
  • In every format, dates are written as yyyy-MM-dd, and yes/no values as true or false. An empty value means nothing was recorded.

Where it comes in handy

What you can build with it

  • Travel and aviation apps. Find airports near a place, with their runways and services.
  • Logistics. Check runway length and services for planned flights.
  • Maps. Plot airports by type, tower or size.
  • Flight simulation. Load real airport and runway data.
