Good to know

Before you use it

  • Each row is one product listing. The same product code (ProductNDC) can appear on more than one label; ProductID is unique.
  • Ingredients and strengths are in the same order, separated by semicolons. Text is as the FDA publishes it, often in capitals.
  • PharmacologicClass is the FDA's established class, such as GLP-1 Receptor Agonist. A product with a MarketingEndDate is being or has been discontinued.
  • This is reference data, not medical advice. Listing in the directory doesn't mean the FDA has approved a product.
  • In every format, dates are written as yyyy-MM-dd, and yes/no values as true or false. An empty value means nothing was recorded.

Where it comes in handy

What you can build with it

  • Pharmacy and health apps. Look up a drug by brand, generic name or NDC.
  • Healthcare data. Add ingredients, class and maker to records with an NDC.
  • Research. Study drugs by class, route or maker.
  • Compliance. Find controlled substances by DEA schedule.
