Good to know

Before you use it

  • This is a classification reference, not a duty calculator. The rates are the schedule's rates for each tariff line. What an importer owes can also depend on the country of origin, trade programs, quotas and the additional duties in Chapter 99, none of which are applied here. U.S. Customs and Border Protection makes binding classifications.
  • GeneralRate is the normal rate. SpecialRate lists lower rates under trade agreements and programs, with their codes in parentheses. Column2Rate applies to the few countries without normal trade relations.
  • FullDescription joins every level above the code with " > ", so a code whose own description is just "Other" still reads clearly. Footnotes often point to Chapter 99 provisions that add duties.
  • Chapters 98 and 99 are left out: they hold special provisions and temporary or additional duties that modify other codes rather than classify goods. The first six digits (Subheading) are the international Harmonized System code that most countries share.
  • In every format, dates are written as yyyy-MM-dd, and yes/no values as true or false. An empty value means nothing was recorded.
