Good to know

Before you use it

  • Population is GeoNames' figure for the city itself; sources and years vary by country.
  • Region is the first-level division: a state, province, prefecture or the like. AsciiName is the name without accents, for searching.
  • Neighborhoods and parts of a city are left out, so each row is a city or town of its own.
  • If you publish the data or build it into a product, credit GeoNames as the licence requires.
  • In every format, dates are written as yyyy-MM-dd, and yes/no values as true or false. An empty value means nothing was recorded.
