Battle Strength and Loss Estimates
256 sourced numbers behind the major battles: every estimate of an army's strength or losses, who made it (an ancient writer, an official return or a modern historian) and where it is published. Ancient figures, such as Herodotus's five million for Xerxes's army, sit beside modern estimates so you can see how much they differ.
